In winter the hiker can see more clearly in the dark
for trees are leafless and chill winds blow fog and mist away.
Winter hiker in the nighttime woods,
winter hiker in a kind of Buddhist netherworld,
a world of infinite focus
with last season's leaves dangling on tattered spider webs.
A passage after the fall and before the spring.
Soul
try, try to remember what you see,
keep that vision within your soon to be reborn flesh,
for summer looms ahead, another fall and winter also.
But in winter the hiker can see more clearly in the dark
for trees are leafless and chill winds blow fog and mist away.
