Skeletal Black 2

Dee Allen.

Without warning, they awakened to a raging inferno
No alarms, no sprinklers, thick smoke flowed-----
A product of fire, a message in char.

They climbed out of windows, down fire escapes
Personal belongings left inside to an igneous fate-----
A property lot, a blackened scar.

Flames struck 43 rooms like a preemptive attack
Three stories burned through, skeletal black-----
A product of fire, a message in char.

Four were deceased, more were displaced
The rest stood staring chaos in the face-----
A property lot, a blackened scar.

The poor former tenants had cause to grieve
Perhaps it was a landlordís scheme: Set the
              blaze, make them leave-----
A product of fire, a message in char.

On San Pablo Avenue, a gutted tenement testifies
That due to arson, another neighbourhood dies.
A product of fire, a message in char.
A property lot, a blackened scar.
