Why the Great Ones Wrote

Colin Dardis
See this sailor
with a brok           en cutlass, wav
ing w   o   r
over the page
like some base drunkard,

dan             cing
for his sorrows on deck
whilst trying to sail (dancing) straight
the storm’s mouth.

Sea this sailor
and use his own hide
to ca  (dancing)    tch the wind;

long may he twist the gales
to supplement voyages
onto fearless worlds, new and bold
without echo.
