When construction started on the Golden Gate Bridge, a friend of my father was one of the first men hired. He showed no fear of heights and was an expert machinist. Shortly after he started to work, he fell feet-first into a piece of machinery. When the rescue workers arrived, they told him that if they removed him he would die immediately, but if they left him he would die soon anyway. He ask them to call his wife. He exchanged a few words with her, she kissed him, and they ask for the machine to be turned back on.
